We
all have stress in our daily lives. No matter how much money we have,
how healthy we are, or how wonderful our overall life is, we all have
stress. No one controls every single aspect of their life. We cannot
control the weather, the economy, or any number of other factors that
arise in life.
A certain
amount of stress is normal and is even good for you. Stress sometimes
keeps us alert, plays a role in how we react to things, and basically
allows us to adjust to lifes "curveballs" or unforeseen
events. Listen, if we everything that was going to happen from now until
the day we die, life would be a pretty boring, and sometimes scary,
process!
But the
problem is, some people have far more stress than they should in their
lives. And many of these same people cause this unwanted stress by their
actions. The ability to respond in the proper manner to most situations
can dramatically reduce the stress level in our lives.
One of
the "hidden benefits" of Customer Service Training is the
ability to communicate effectively. That means possessing great
listening skills and being able to choose your words, actions, and
resolutions carefully and properly. Several things happen when you learn
how to communicate effectively.
Have you
ever made a statement or remark only to think to yourself "Oh,
crap! I wish I hadn't said that?" Or perhaps you said something to
another person that made things worse instead of better. We all do that
from time to time and doing that does not mean you are a bad person. It
just means you have not been taught the right way to handle these
situations as they occur.
Think of
every situation as a tug of war. Every good statement moves things one
way and every poor choice moves things in the opposite direction. When
you look at it that way, it should be obvious to you that you need to
"recover" from poor choices and that takes time, effort, and
resources. It also creates stress. Lots of stress.
Stress
raises blood pressure, can cause us to eat more, and alters the way we
interact with others. Imagine what it would be like to be the next
customer who has to deal with someone who just had an all out screaming
match with another customer! Do you think that stress just might carry
over to your situation?
Of course
it would. It is human nature to hold on to your emotions and have them
effect future responses. It's just the way people are. However, if we
can find a way to reduce stress, and minimize those negative situations,
everyone winds up benefiting from the process.
Customer
Service Training teaches us how to handle situations quickly, correctly,
and more efficiently. It teaches us how to minimize negative feelings
and how to avoid making a situation worse. It teaches us how to reduce
stress, reduce time required to resolve problems and most important, it
shows us how to PREVENT problems in the future.
The
bottom line is that anything we can do to minimize the stress in our
daily lives can pay huge benefits. Longer, healthier, and happier lives
are the result of reducing stress. If that isn't a good enough reason to
get these skills now, I dont' know what is!
