What is the Real Cost of Customer Service Training?

Why Should You Improve Your Customer Service Skills?

  • Added competition from electronic commerce means more competition for your customers!

  • More candidates for fewer positions means that only those with the proper skills will succeed and earn the highest salaries!

Customer Service Training is sometimes difficult to cost justify. It is next to impossible to attach a specific value to something as abstract as Customer Service. How many customer are lost due to poor customer service behavior? How many situations are handled poorly resulting in dissatisfied customers?

The truth of the matter is that Customer Service Training SAVES you money! Always keep in mind that every customer you lose is a customer gained by your competition! If you are driving customers away by being uncooperative, or hard to deal with, you are helping your competition grow their market share with little or no effort!

It costs a business 5 to 10 times more to get a new customer than to keep an existing one! Your customers are your biggest asset! Treat them like gold and protect their value to you and your business by training yourself and every employee on the newest and most effective Customer Service skills!

Individuals Need Training Too!

Perhaps one of the most difficult thing to convince a person to do is to improve their customer service and interpersonal skills. We realize the need to improve or technical skills, product skills, and marketing skills, but customer service often is just an after thought. The benefits are enormous, however, for those that do!

Whe you are hired to perform a function for a company, the main reason for that function is to provide a product or service for that company. Customer service skills enable you to product that product or service in a cost effective manner. By learning how to deal with customers, address their needs, and solve their problems, we learn how to make customers happy. The result is that we become more valuable to our company and more efficient in doing your tasks.

Customer Service Training teaches you how to relate to others. These skills help you get along with others, communicate more effectively, and increase your productivity. These same skills help you to sell your most important product, YOURSELF! In interviews you use your skills to get that new or better job job you've been waiting for. Your customer service skills can give you an edge over your competition when it comes time for that final decision! You only get one chance to make a first impression, you owe it to yourself to do the best job possible!

What Type of Training in the Best?

There are three basic types of Customer Service Training:

  • Seminars

  • Local College or University Training

  • Self-Paced Training using manuals or printed material

We feel that the self-paced method is the best and most effective for many reasons. Self-paced training allows you to proceed at your own pace. You can take as long as you want to complete a certain topic without feeling bored or left behind. You proceed to the next topic only when you feel you are ready, not at the whim on an instructor.
Self-paced training also allows you to take the materials home with you or to the office and read them at your convenience. Read them at night or on your lunch hour? Did you have a tough day or are you not feeling well? Skip that night and start again the next day. No classes to miss, topics to catch-up on or lectures to wonder about. Train when YOU want to train!
Cost is another factor. Seminars can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars to take. In addition, you have expenses getting to the seminar, meals and lodging, and time away from work. Do you have to use personal time or sick time to attend training? What about time you miss when your take off? Do you return to work with a pile of backed up work you still have to finish? Will you have to work overtime to catch up?
Self-paced training allows you to train in the comfort of your own home. Your materials can be taken with you wherever you go. They can be carried with you to be used as a reference as you implement new techniques.
Whatever method of training you may choose, it is important that every individual and business recognize the benefit and need of continually updating their Customer Service Skills. With the changing business climate, and the explosion of internet and electronic commerce, competition is going to explode and only those with the skills to properly serve their customers will succeed!
